If you count all of the time I spent researching this project, starting with my MA thesis on the Chiapas Socialists' landmark 1925 women's suffrage law, through all of my dissertation research on Socialism in the Southeast, and then the seven years of research, writing and revision I've done since then, I have worked on this book for fourteen years.
