When I was invited by Leonardo Lomelí and Ricardo Gamboa to give a keynote lecture on my first book at UNAM this past February, I was of course thrilled; I didn’t even know at the time that I would be speaking as part of a 3-day economic history colloquium with some of the luminaries of Mexican history. I also certainly didn’t know that it would be the last time I would get to be in Mexico for a very, very long time, and I am so grateful that the date in early February, 2020 (and not any later) meant that I could go at all. It was an honor to be invited to be part of this event, to spend so much time at UNAM, and to meet so many extraordinary people working on various aspects of Mexican postrevolutionary history from so many different angles.
